Dairy Farmer, William Service, currently milks 700 cows based at Newton Stewart.  He was using peracetic acid in his ADF cluster flush system which was harsh on the ADF pipework and parlour rubber. Long term wear and tear from the peracetic acid caused regular and expensive maintenance and replacement of pipework, liners and jetters on the system.

Evans’ Dairy and Ruminant Specialist, Barry Heaton, suggested that Cleansan could be a suitable replacement as it is much less corrosive and also more cost effective.  Cleansan is a QAC-free detergent, which is specifically formulated for cluster flush and teat brush systems. It is super concentrated, which means a lower cost in use. 

William made the change and is very happy with the results, finding that there has been no impact to milk quality, with bactoscans and somatic cell count unaffected by the change. As Cleansan is a non corrosive product, the main benefit has been the reduced maintenance and number of replacement parts, leading to reduced running costs and extending the life span of the system. 

Barry was able to solve another problem for William with our professional hygiene product range. The farm uses reusable cloths for wiping the cows’ teats as part of the pre-milking process, and although they were always washed at 90°C to remove bacteria, gradually over time they could develop an odour which required extra washing and chemical to remove. Adding Evans’ Crusader Oxy Destainer to the wash has led to a consistent result with the cloths appearing to be consistently cleaner and removing the need for any extra washes or chemicals.
